With the close of the National Championships we had a look at the caliber of competitors and realized the field was stacked - not only in skill but in character. So we asked what was the key to their success. How did they make it from all over Canada to race in Quebec City at the Nationals? This is the top ten compiled points that will help you make it through a City Chase, and possibly win a City Chase. (Compiled using Breathe Rules – we picked what we thought was the best from each group!)
Be NICE to the other racers, the organizers, the volunteers, and the public. They will help you! Some teams aggressively try to win and step on other teams to do so. But we've got a lot further by being nice and helping other teams; you never know when they might return the favour (by telling you where a Chasepoint is, whether a Chasepoint takes a long time, that sort of thing). Ottawa 2009 City Chase Winners - Mike Bessuille & Mike Reade
- When you just CAN'T agree with your partner - just go with rock, paper, scissors and move on. If you're not a fan of that game - you can always revert to a mud wrestling match to settle disputes.Toronto #2 2009 City Chase Winners - Anthony Woods & Erik Woods
- Be prepared to get naked. Edmonton 2009 City Chase Winners - Sara Brown & Tyson Van Leusden
- Have a 'google-ready' assistant you can call for directions/help. Vancouver 2009 City Chase Winners - Derek Bains & Stephanie Jameson
- The pole dancing station requires a little enthusiasm - don't hit that chase point without you're “A” game ready to rock. Toronto #2 2009 City Chase Winners - Anthony Woods & Erik Woods
- Have a phone and a map... seriously, people don't bring these? Montreal 2009 City Chase Winners - Chris McQuinn & Scott Chisholm
- Even before the race talk with your partner about your individual strengths, weaknesses, comfort zones and phobias. Then when the race starts, you will be able to quickly choose which chase points you want to do and which you want to avoid if at all possible. Calgary 2009 City Chase Winners - Jen Silverthorn & Jean-Pierre (JP) Buysschaert
- Always have a contingency plan. If a bus doesn't arrive - know your options ahead of time. Have a back-up plan in case there's a line-up at the chase point. Calgary 2009 City Chase Winners - Jen Silverthorn & Jean-Pierre (JP) Buysschaert
- Practice navigating under pressure by running late for important events, such as weddings and job interviews. Toronto #1 2009 City Chase Winners - Jeremy Crane & David Crane
- Just enjoy it. It’s all about having a good time and enjoying the experience. It would suck to win and not have fun, but it would suck even more to lose and not enjoy the experience.Vancouver 2009 City Chase Winners - Derek Bains & Stephanie Jameson
