![]() Vancouver Running Club Invites Visitors to Go for a Run. Visitors to Olympic host cities Vancouver and Whistler have their days full of exciting spectator events and evenings full of fine food, drink and culture. For those who need to move, however, the big question is, “Where do I go for a run?" Club Fat Ass has the answer: Join us!
The Vancouver-based outdoor activities club is organizing its members and other “local” runners to adopt visiting runners and to share their favorite roads and trails. Club Manager Sibylle Tinsel, who grew up in Germany, explains: “For runners, the lower mainland of British Columbia offers some of the best opportunities on the planet. We have safe streets, a very active population and magnificent wilderness trails within an hour run of downtown Vancouver. We’d like to reach out to visiting runners with an offer to share our favorite running routes… routes most visitors will never find on their own.” The first challenge for the Club is to convince visitors to get over the cheeky name. “Yes, our name does cause people to pause and wonder what kind of a club we are,” says Tinsel. “In the ultramarathon running community, a “fat ass” run is one that is free, low key, focused on the camaraderie as much as the competition and where whining is not allowed”. Visiting runners simply sign up on the Club website with their availability, the length of their desired run, their language and other details. Local runners sign up on the same page to either volunteer themselves as running guides or to propose a run at a specific place and time.
