Astrid Valks of the Netherlands adds to the challenges posed by ultra-mrathons in an unusual way, and one that is near and dear to my heart: she does not do any serious or specific training. The goal is to finish the full course, not finish last, and get stronger as the race progresses. She says she does this simply because she hates training. I can respect that, as I often do the same thing. FYI: she did indeed finish the full course, nowhere near last place, and improved steadily after stage 3 (the long one).
